Organic Jade Oolong tea from Hubei Province, China. A light-oxidation, greener-style oolong with a floral, naturally sweet profile. Green-gold liquor, mellow and clean, with floral notes and a faint citrus edge. Not bitter; forgiving across a wide range of steeping times.
Tea Type: Chinese oolong (Wu Long, 乌龙); greener, lighter-oxidation style
Origin: Hubei Province, China (mountain-grown)
Certification: USDA Organic, MOFGA Organic
Sourcing: Worker-owned cooperative; direct trade; no synthetic pesticides or herbicides
Processing: Light-to-moderate oxidation; minimal roasting; whole leaf
Caffeine: Approximately 40–50mg per 8 oz cup
Brewing Specifications:
- Water temperature: 210°F (99°C)
- Steeping time: 4 minutes (3–6 min range; forgiving)
- Tea amount: 1.5 tsp (3g) per 8 oz cup
- Infusions: 3–4 good steeps; pour off the first 30-second steep as a rinse
- Brews well hot or iced
Flavor Profile: Floral and mellow — light citrus, subtle toasted-grass note, naturally sweet finish. Green-gold liquor. Customer descriptions include "smooth flavor isn't overpowering and has just a hint of citrus" (Cheryl), "a big fan of the balance between the woody and subtle floral notes" (one customer), and "golden green, a lightly sweet and buttery tea to brighten your afternoon" (Michele).
Best For: Everyday drinking, morning through afternoon. Green tea drinkers exploring oolong. Coffee-switchers who want something lighter than a black tea. Not the right choice for drinkers who prefer the heavily roasted, mineral depth of a rock oolong — for that, see Da Hong Pao.
Customer Quote: "I normally don't like oolongs, but this oolong is superb. I am a serious green tea drinker and I drink this tea every day." — Christina
Note on origin: Tieguanyin-style greener oolongs are traditionally associated with Anxi County, Fujian Province. Our Jade Oolong is grown in Hubei Province — same light-oxidation style, different mountain. It is the first oolong we found that met our standard; it took years of looking. Organic, worker co-op sourced, and priced to drink every day.
